About Jonangi Dog Breed

1. History & Origin-

The Jonangi is a traditional Indian herding dog that is still used in rural communities for its original purpose.

The breed is named after the Jonangi people, who are a Scheduled Tribe in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.

The exact origins of the Jonangi are unknown, but the breed is thought to be several hundred years old. Some believe that the Jonangi is a descendant of the Rajapalayam, another Indian hunting breed. 

Others believe that the breed is a mix of the Rajapalayam and the Rampur hound. Regardless of its exact origins, the Jonangi is a uniquely Indian breed that is well-suited to survive harsh conditions in India.

2. Appearance-

Jonangi looks similar to  Indian street dogs. However, they are short, muscular, and have pointy ears, their coat is very short, and they are extremely athletic. There are many variations among different Jonangi dogs as a result of massive interbreeding. They can be found in various colours like all white, white with some black spots(somewhat similar to a Dalmatian), all black, grey, and brindle.

Once they were available in abundance in India but now they are left in few numbers only. Due to the efforts of some breeders, they have not been extinct so far.

These are very rough & tough dog breeds.
