About Beagle Dog Breed

These dogs lived in Greece and were used for hunting rabbits. They spread to other parts of Europe as well.

In the story about beagle origin, the 8th century is pretty important because at this time there was a dog called Saint Hubert Dog, which was a good hunting dog as well from this dog Talbot hound was created. And later Talbot Hound was brought to England in the 11th century.

But Talbots were slow, so they had to be bred with greyhounds. The crossbred was named Southern Hound, which is one of the main ancestors of today’s Beagle. It is believed that the name Beagle came from the French word be, which means open or gape throat. Later the beagles were developed in England and were later imported to America in the 1870s where today’s modern-day beagle was developed.
