About Alaskan Klee Kai Breed

History-

Alaskan Klee Kai in the late 1970s and 1980s Linda’s Spurlin and her husband’s family all from Alaska had a vision of creating the perfect companion in a little husky which all started after accidental breeding with a small dog and an Alaskan Husky Linda and her family very carefully selected which dogs to include in the development of the breed over the years Linda used only the best Alaskan Huskies a small dose of Siberian Husky and just the right amount of some other small dogs that had the similar conformation after years of dedication and lots of trial and error perfecting this little husky Linda and her friends had to come up with a name for these little huskies the name Klee Kai comes from the Eskimo words meaning little dog.

Appearance –

They do look a lot like the huskies except they are small in size. They have big straight ears, They do also have double hair coats and fluffy curled tails. They come in various colours, black and white, grey and white, red and white, completely white, etc. Their eyes also come in different colours like blue or brown, and can also have a blue eye and a brown eye, and they can even have eyes that are in different colours within the same eye.

Temperament-

they are big personalities in small little bodies they definitely think they’re big dogs whenever you take them for a walk they might try to challenge the bigger dogs. They are quite independent and they are obviously companion dogs so they like to be around their human owners.

Intelligence and Trainability-

They do have High IQs and can learn various things quickly and they love to get challenged and please their owners. However, they are also independent and stubborn sometimes which makes them slightly difficult to train. You have to be consistent with the training to keep them disciplined.

Life Span & size-

The average life span of Alaskan Klee kai is around 15-17 Years. They come in 3 sizes Standard – A standard-size Klee kai is between 15.1 inches to 17.5 inches in height

miniature – A miniature-size Klee kai is between 13.1 inches to 15 inches in height

Toy- A toy-size Klee kai can grow up to 13 inches in height. The average weight of Alaskan Klee Klai can range between 4 to 10 kgs.

Compatibility with other Pets-

They’re a bit hit-and-miss with dogs, but they do get along with some dogs very well while with other dogs they don’t.  They usually got on very well with Spitz breeds they seem to know that they’re somehow related and they always have a good report with that kind of dog but I do recommend a lot of socialization classes from a young age for your puppy to make sure that you get a grounded and well-balanced dog so they can get along with dogs, cats and strangers as well.

Shedding-

They do shed a lot so you all need to brush them two or three times a week to make sure you remove all the loose hair from their coat. If your dog is not comfortable with the hairbrush you can use shedding gloves to brush them because it feels that we’re just stroking them and gradually getting the hair. they may shed even more during shedding season which happens twice a year.

Exercise needs-

They look like huskies so most people think that they are hyperactive like huskies. But that is not the case They are moderately active and it is more than if you give them to exercise at least 1 hr a day. You can divide that 1 hr into two half an hour sessions one in the morning and the morning(where you can go for walking). They also like to play with toys and will tire themselves out.

Health issues-

Alaskan Klee Kai is overall a healthy breed but can suffer from diseases like liver disease, joint problems, sensitive stomach, juvenile cataracts (quite rare), etc.
